WordPress Development Services
WordPress has a reputation problem it mostly earned. A great deal of what gets built on it is a purchased theme, twenty-five plugins and nobody responsible for the result.
Built properly it is a very good content system: an editing experience people will actually use, a mature ecosystem, and a hosting market that makes it cheap to run. The difference is whether it was treated as software or as an assembly job.
We build custom themes and blocks, write plugins where functionality is genuinely needed, and keep the plugin count low enough that the site can be updated without anyone holding their breath. This site is one of ours.
What We Build
Not every project needs all of this. These are the parts we go deep on when a product calls for them.
-
Custom themes
Built for the content the site actually has, not adapted from a demo. Fast by construction rather than by optimisation afterwards.
-
Blocks and the editor
Custom blocks and patterns so the editing experience matches the design, with constraints that keep pages on-brand. The aim is that the marketing team can build a new page without asking a developer and without being able to break the design.
-
Custom post types and admin tooling
Structured content with real fields, proper relationships and an admin that fits the editorial workflow. Most WordPress sites that become unmanageable do so because everything was a page.
-
Plugin development
Where functionality does not exist or where the available options bring more weight than value. Written to your site rather than to a marketplace.
-
Headless WordPress
WordPress as the content backend with a React or Next.js front end. Right for some projects and overkill for many, and we will say which yours is.
-
Multilingual
Translation workflow, URL structure and hreflang handled properly, which is more decision-making than it looks.
-
Migration
Moving onto WordPress, between hosts, or from a build nobody can maintain — with content, media, URLs and redirects intact.
-
Performance and security
Caching, asset handling, image strategy, database health, and hardening. See performance and security.
When Teams
Come to Us
-
Marketing needs to edit the site without asking a developer
Every content change currently goes through someone technical. That is a bottleneck with a design solution.
-
The site is slow and nobody knows which plugin did it
Years of accumulated additions, none of which can be removed with confidence.
-
WordPress as a backend for something else
You want its editing experience with your own front end in front of it.
-
A site you inherited
A custom theme with no documentation, or a developer who left. We audit before committing. See project takeover and modernisation.
-
It needs to do more than a site should
Member areas, calculators, directories, integrations. Sometimes the right answer is still WordPress, sometimes it is a web application. See web app development. We will tell you which, including when the answer is the less profitable one for us.
Do You Have a Project Idea?
Tell us what you want to build. We come back with a rough estimate and an honest view of what it takes, before anyone signs anything.
How We Work
The content, who maintains it, and what the editing workflow needs to be. The output is a scope you can price and argue with.
Post types, fields and relationships agreed before any template is built. The stage that decides whether the site is maintainable.
Theme, blocks and any plugin work, in sprints.
Across browsers and devices, plus a pass in the editor itself, because an untested admin is where the real problems hide.
Migration, redirects, caching and monitoring, rehearsed before launch.
Every project includes one month of bug fixing after launch at no extra cost.
Stack
- WordPress with custom themes and blocks, built for the block editor
- PHP, with Laravel where a site needs application logic beside it
- React and Next.js for headless front ends
- Custom post types and fields, modelled rather than improvised
- SEO: AIOSEO or equivalent, with schema and breadcrumbs configured properly
- Delivery: version control, staging, CI deployment, uptime and error monitoring
We keep the plugin count deliberately low. Every plugin is a dependency, a security surface and a thing that can break on update.
Performance and Quality
We set numeric targets during scoping and test against them. On a WordPress site that usually means Core Web Vitals thresholds and a page weight budget, checked before release rather than discovered afterwards.
Accessibility works the same way. WCAG 2.1 AA is a line in our estimates, not an aspiration.
Selected Work
- Postmuseum. Content-led site with a structured editorial model and commerce attached.
- ideus.biz. This site. Custom theme, custom blocks, hierarchical content structure and a deliberately short plugin list.
Industries We Build For
We build WordPress sites across construction and PropTech, healthcare, booking and scheduling, and travel and mobility.
How We
Work Together
-
Fixed scope
A defined build, priced per module, with a timeline. -
Ongoing team
A developer working to your roadmap for sites that keep changing. -
Maintenance retainer
WordPress needs maintaining more than most systems, because its plugin and core updates are frequent and unskippable. Starting from five hours per month. SeeWe price every project individually. There are no packages, because the work does not arrive in packages.
Questions We
Get Asked
-
A well-built WordPress site with few plugins, current core and someone maintaining it is secure enough for most businesses. An unmaintained one with thirty plugins is not, and that is where the reputation comes from. Security here is an operational question more than a platform one.
-
Sometimes. It gives you front-end freedom and costs you the editor preview, some plugin functionality, and a simpler hosting story. Worth it when the front end genuinely needs to be an application. Not worth it for a marketing site with a blog.
-
Yes, after an audit. Sometimes the right answer is to improve what exists; sometimes a custom theme costs less than two years of working around a purchased one. We will tell you which and show our reasoning.
-
No. It is standard WordPress, with the code in your repository and the hosting in your account. We build so another team could take it on without difficulty.
-
Rough estimate once we understand the content model and the design, detailed per-module estimate once the scope is agreed.
